The League of Women Voters of Central New Mexico needs members’ skills, enthusiasm, and commitment to help us keep our League functioning and providing important information to our community. Volunteering is also a great way to get to know other league members. Current Volunteer Opportunities:
Calendar/Event Planning Committee:
Help with planning and coordinating monthly meetings and special events.
Candidate Forums:
Help us provide candidate forums by planning, moderating, sorting questions, or time keeping.
Graphic Artist:
Help design and create flyers and other documents that we produce.
Observation Corps:
Join a group of members who meet every month and discuss important issues in the community. Attend (in person or remotely) governmental meetings such as school boards, city councils, and county commissions, and report back to the League.
Office:
Check phone messages and return calls (can be done remotely).
Create donation thank you letters and labels for envelopes, and mail the letters.
Check (paper) mailbox and process mail.
Set up and take down conference room for meetings.
Set up and start Zoom meetings.
Update our website.
Update our member email lists.
Send out mass emails.
Keep supplies maintained.
Outreach:
Find opportunities to engage with and educate our community, including students at UNM, CNM, and high schools, on voting and elections.
Public Relations:
Assist with various PR efforts, including communication with media, making signage for events and for libraries (e.g. Who’s Who), and other PR.
Social Media:
Post weekly to Facebook, occasionally to LinkedIn.
Find and feed information to the person posting to Instagram and X (Twitter).
Voter Guide (our election information document):
Formulate candidate questions pertinent to the community.
Develop descriptions for all the races in an election.
Do research for bond and mil levy issues.
Update race and candidate information online in Vote411.
Call candidates and encourage them to respond to the questions.
Proofread the Voter Guide.
Assist with Voter Guide distribution: contact sites to stock Guides, identify new sites, and deliver printed booklets.
