The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan political organization that encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy. The League of Women Voters of New Mexico was established in 1920 when the 19th Amendment to the US Constitution recognized the rights of women to vote.
The League of Women Voters of Central New Mexico (LWVCNM) focuses on issues that affect Bernalillo, Sandoval, Torrance and Valencia county residents and are within the scope of elected and appointed officials in those counties. The LWVCNM does not support or oppose any political party or candidate. Rather, we are focused on providing information that will allow residents to form their own opinions based on factual information.
Membership in LWVCNM is open to all women and men who are 16 years or older. As an LWVCNM member, you can participate in a variety of activities, such as:
- Monthly meetings with guest speakers
- Voter registration events
- Non-partisan election forums
- Government meeting attendance and participation
- Committees to study issues
You can be involved in our work to continue and grow our causes. Here is a list of opportunities: Volunteer Opportunities.
